Japan's prehistoric culture can be divided into three periods. The Jomon period (c. 7500 B.C.-c. 300 B.C.) is so called after the cord pattern often found on the neolithic earthenware from that period. The Great 1914 Sakura-jima Eruption

Votes:0
The Great 1914 Sakura-jima Eruption The Great 1914 Sakura-jima Eruption Background Sakura-jima is a stratovolcano in southern Japan. It sits in the tongue of ocean called Kagoshima Bay, named after the large industrial city across the bay from the volcano. The 1914 eruption of Sakura-jima was the biggest eruption in Japan this century. It taught volcanologists a number of lessons about how volcanoes work. And because the people quickly left the island, there were few deaths. Sakura-jima as seen from Kagoshima City. Photo Copyrighted by Bob Decker Sakura-jima is the latest stage of activity of a much larger volcanic system called Aira Caldera. This is a 15 mile (25 km) wide caldera formed about 22,000 years ago by a gigantic eruption that deposited volcanic ash over wide areas of southern J Read More

The Web's First Japanese Pizza Page

The Web's First Japanese Pizza Page As far as I can tell, this is the web's first page dedicated to introducing the world to Japanese pizza which, in some guises, is truly an abomination for mankind. But I won't make any further value judgments here and simply describe the pizzas that are selling at Pizza Studio, an establishment in my neighborhood in Setagaya, Tokyo. Excellent Seafood Special The Prime "With Luxurious Toppings, this is the Definitive Mixed Pizza!" "Crab, Scallops, and More -- Full of Sea Goodness!" "Pizza Studio's Most Popular!"
